N & J Cafe

Yum, yum, yum! I was craving hummus yesterday so I decided to go to N & J Cafe in Wichita, KS for free hummus Mondays! Not only did I get my fill of hummus but I also had the falafel.

As of yesterday, I’ve tried all of the vegetarian dishes on their menu and it was all delicious with the exception of one dish. I had the baba ganoush a while back and I wasn’t a huge fan of it. I don’t know if it was because the eggplant was so strong or if it was the texture but I wasn’t a fan. With the exception of that, everything else is wonderful!

The service is always great at N & J and it always smells amazing! If you haven’t been there yet, you should give it a try. Whether you’re a vegetarian or a lover of meat, you’ll surely find something there that you love!

Wasabi Sushi

Okay, everyone… I have a confession to make! I cheated on my vegetarian diet this weekend! I was really craving fish and since sushi is one of the things that I miss eating the most as a vegetarian, I went and had some amazing sushi this weekend at Wasabi in downtown Wichita, KS.

Wasabi is absolutely amazing! The prices are great, the food is fresh, the service is fast, and they have a huge selection of rolls and sashimi. While I was there, I had two different rolls and they were both amazing. It would be really hard for me to choose a favorite! I had the 911 Roll and the Crazy Crab Roll and I loved them both. Wasabi is by far the best sushi restaurant that I’ve been to in Wichita. I honestly didn’t check to see if they have any vegetarian options on their menu but I’m sure they do!

Whether you’re a pescetarian, a lover of meat, or you’re cheating on your vegetarian diet, Wasabi is an excellent place to go. I hope you get the chance to check it out and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

River City Brewing Co.

I was spending some time in downtown Wichita, KS a few nights ago and was really hungry. I didn’t know what I wanted exactly but there were a few places that were close. I didn’t want to go for a chain restaurant so I skipped over Old Chicago. I realized that I also wanted to have a glass of beer with my dinner and the only option that made sense to me was to go to River City Brewing Co.

River City has been around for years. I’ve eaten there as a vegetarian and I’ve eaten there when I wasn’t a vegetarian and they have options for everyone! I’ve tried several things on the menu and they were all delicious. When Elijah came home for Christmas Exodus, we went there and he had the Greek Pizza and it was phenomenal! Last time I went there, I had the Baked Mac N Cheese. It was so amazing! Gooey, cheesy, delicious! Not to mention their beer choices!

If you don’t know this already, River City brews their own beer. Every one I’ve had there has been amazing and I suggest you all go try it out! I hope you all enjoy River City Brewing Co. as much as I do!

Spring Break Vegetarian Finds: Part II

Although I ate at several fantastic restaurants while on my Spring Break, my absolute favorite was The Bee’s Knees in Augusta, GA. This is not only my favorite restaurant that I dined at while in Georgia but it may be one of my favorite restaurants in general.

The Bee’s Knees is a Tapas bar so we ordered several different dishes to share between two of us and they were all AMAZING! We started off with the Hummus which had red peppers in it. The dish was full of flavor and the pita was so warm and fresh. We then had the Mediterranean Olives and Bread which was so good! The dish was crispy and flavorful. My only complaint is that I wish the olives had been pitted. After that we moved right along to the Korean Nappa Roll which I was pleasantly surprised about. It was the one that I was looking forward to the least and it may have been my favorite of all the dishes. Everything that we had was amazing! The portions were a good size, the price was right, and the service and atmosphere were wonderful!

There are several reasons that I’d like to visit Augusta, GA again and The Bee’s Knees is definitely one of them!

Spring Break Vegetarian Finds: Part I

While I was away enjoying my spring break with family, I came across two super delicious vegetarian restaurants in Augusta, GA. I had never been to Augusta before so I didn’t quite know what to expect but my Augusta expert led me to all the right places.

While we were there one day, we went to the Soy Noodle House and it was delicious! The portions were very generous, the price was fair, and the food and service were great! With every main course, you get to choose your meat product. They have several options for those that aren’t vegetarians and for those that are, you get a choice of grilled veggies, tofu, or tempeh. I thought all the different options were amazing and I will definitely go to the Soy Noodle House the next time I’m in Augusta, GA.

Vegetarian Sandwiches at Planet Sub

When I first started eating a vegetarian diet, I was afraid that it meant I would have to give up some of my favorite fast food restaurants. I was right for the most part but luckily, my all-time favorite sandwich shop, Planet Sub, has a pretty large vegetarian menu.

I’ve tried all of the vegetarian options on their menu and I have yet to be disappointed. They all have a lot of flavor, they aren’t too dry, and most importantly they all have something different to offer. I can’t imagine any vegetarian walking out of Planet Sub hungry. They have so many different flavorful options and I love them all!

Though it is hard to choose my favorite out of all the great options, my top two are “The Planet Veggie” which offers two different cheeses and a lot of delicious and nutritious veggies and the “Tempeh Parmesan” which reminds me of my favorite sub growing up as a kid, the meatball sub. With all the choices, I’m sure you’ll all find a favorite of your own!

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen

Winter is almost over so there is only so much time left before I decide that it’s too warm for me to eat soup.  I love soup of all kinds but when it’s warm outside, I want cold food.  Very rarely do I turn on the stove or the oven when it’s hot outside.  But, that time hasn’t come yet so I’ll be enjoying a delicious bowl of soup at Tanya’s Soup Kitchen in Wichita, KS tomorrow for lunch!

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen is delicious and they cater to all diets!  Not only do they serve vegetarian dishes but there is also the option to have a vegan meal or dairy free soup!  It’s all delicious and I recommend it to everyone!  If you haven’t been there yet, you should definitely check it out!

Thai Smile Will Make You Smile

If you’re looking for a good Thai restaurant in Wichita that also caters to vegetarians, look no further!  Thai Smile is delicious and extremely vegetarian friendly!

There are several different meals on the menu at Thai Smile and in every one you get to choose your meat… tofu is an option on all of these meals.  If you’re not a fan of tofu, they also offer stir fried veggies in place of the meat.  Either way, you win!

Everything that I’ve eaten here has been excellent!  My favorite is the “Garlic Stir-Fried.”  They also have delicious “Basil Fried Rice!”  They use jasmine rice and it is absolutely to die for!  If you live in Wichita or are just passing through, you should definitely check out Thai Smile!

Lotus Leaf Cafe

If you’re looking to dine out in the Wichita, KS area, I recommend checking out the Lotus Leaf Cafe.

In my opinion, Lotus Leaf Cafe isn’t the best vegetarian restaurant in Wichita but it is pretty good.  The first time I went in, I didn’t enjoy it all that much.  I thought the food was dry and the service was lacking but they have since undergone some changes in management.  I went again just a little over a month ago and I found the food and service to be much better than it was the first time I went.

The menu had changed quite a bit and the food was delicious!  I had the “Veggie Panini” and it was excellent!  The bread comes from a  local bakery and it is some of the best bread that I have ever tasted!  Needless to say, if you are a vegetarian in the Wichita area, you can’t go wrong with the Lotus Leaf Cafe!

Check it out and let me know what your favorites are!

An Encore for Encore Cafe

In my time as a vegetarian, one of the greatest restaurants that I have found is Encore Cafe in Lawrence, KS.  Encore is not strictly a vegetarian restaurant but they have MANY vegetarian options, all of which are delicious!  My personal favorite, however, is the Vegetarian General Tsao’s Chicken.  Check them all out and choose yours!
